What battery does a blood glucose meter use?
Most blood glucose meters take a CR2032 (3 V lithium coin cell). Some use AAA instead. The battery size is in the meter manual and printed inside the battery door.
| Battery | How common | Size | Volts | Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CR2032 | Most common | 20 mm × 3.2 mm | 3 V | ≈ 225 mAh |
| AAA | Also used | 10.5 mm × 44.5 mm | 1.5 V | ≈ 1,150 mAh |
Blood Glucose Meter battery: what to know
- Most compact blood glucose meters use one or two CR2032 coin cells.
- Some larger meters with backlit screens take AAA batteries.
- Changing the battery usually keeps stored readings, but check the date and time afterwards.
How to check which battery your blood glucose meter takes
The battery size is in the meter manual and printed inside the battery door. Battery codes are printed on the flat face of coin and button cells and along the side of AA, AAA and 9V batteries. Match the code exactly: a CR2025 or CR2016 is the same width but thinner, and a CR2450 will not fit.
AAA: NiMH rechargeable AAA (HR03) is 1.2 V and 800–1,100 mAh. Lithium AAA (FR03) lasts longer in cold and high-drain use.
