AA: what to know
- An AA holds about 2.3 times the energy of an AAA, which is why AA versions of a device run longer.
- Lithium AAs (FR6) are 1.5 V like alkaline but weigh about a third less and work far better below freezing.

Can I use another battery instead of an AA?
| Battery | Size | Volts | Works? | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14500 | 14 mm × 50 mm | 3.6 V | No | Rechargeable 3.6 V cell (4.2 V when full): can damage a 1.5 V device. |
| AAA | 10.5 mm × 44.5 mm | 1.5 V | No | Different width: 10.5 mm vs 14.5 mm. |
